Cons

  • More prone to crashes due to nature of untested features
  • Not all beta features make it to the stable release channel

Chrome Beta provides users with access to experimental features in the Chrome browser. On Android devices, Google offers various channels for users to access. Most people simply use the Stable Channel for the browser. More daring or interested users might opt for the Beta Channel or Developer Channel, though. Through the Beta Channel, a user can tinker with features that haven't been released to the general user pool yet.

In the past, Google has tested everything from dark modes to autoplay on the Beta Channel. The Beta often receives updates on a regular basis with tweaks and new features. Typical users may not care about these changes on Chrome for Android. Nonetheless, tech savvy users often like to dabble in what Chrome could soon become. Hundreds of features are tested in this channel, and only a small number of them make it to the Stable build.

Simply put, the Beta Channel contains untested features. Users within this channel essentially act as guinea pigs. Stability in the Beta version is generally fine but nothing to write home about. Unexpected crashes can and will occur from time to time in this channel. Luckily, a given user can switch between the Stable and Beta channels with relative ease. Going back to a more stable Chrome browser is always a possibility.

In the end, Chrome Beta will never be a necessary download for ordinary users. It's often fun to tinker with unreleased features in Chrome, though. This particular channel is typically stable enough to use on a day-to-day basis. Still, a majority of users prioritize stability and simplicity, so Chrome Beta isn't a must-have.
